The Beluga Whale: Ghost of the Arctic Waters

In the icy waters of a protected marine reserve, the beluga whale swims gracefully, its white skin glowing against the deep blue. Known as the "canaries of the sea" for their melodic calls, belugas are highly social animals that live in pods, communicating with an array of clicks, whistles, and chirps.

Belugas are well adapted to their cold environment, with a thick layer of blubber for insulation and a flexible neck that allows them to navigate ice-filled waters. They feed on fish, crustaceans, and worms, diving to depths of up to 700 meters in search of food. The reserve’s pristine waters provide a safe haven where these whales can thrive without the threats of pollution and industrial activity.

One of the most heartwarming sights in the reserve is the bond between beluga mothers and their calves. The young whales remain close to their mothers for years, learning essential survival skills. By protecting the beluga’s habitat, the reserve ensures the survival of these gentle giants, who are an integral part of Arctic ecosystems.
